Salt Lake - Westgate Park

Among many attractions in Melbourne is Salt Water Lake. The lake is located at Westgate Park and known also as Salt Pink Lake (due to its pink color of water sometimes). Why the pink color?  According to a report, algae growing in the salt crust at the bottom of Westgate Parks lake produce a red pigment (read here).

Another explaination is - the pink color occurs due to the natural interaction of a harmless, single cell green alga, Dunaliella salina with another harmless halobacterium, Halobacteria cutirubrum during summer in response to the high salt level concentration, temperatures and light (source - here). mm
