Sgnage tentang sejarah Ladang Teh Bharat
A young
man by the name Shivparshad Bansal arrived in Taiping to assist his uncle in
running a general provision store. He was 12 years old. Born in Agra India, Shuparshad
worked hard to lay the foundation of what is today known as the Bharat Group of
Companies. After a few years, he moved to Tapah and opened up his own sundry
business. Meanwhile, he started to expand his business by acquiring 70 acres of
land to plant rubber in Bidor. In 1920, work in the Tapah-CH road had begun and
Shuparshad was awarded the contract to supply food ration and sundries to the
large labour force that had come to work on this project. As the road up to the
mountain began to take shape, Shuparshad become more established. He worked his
way from Ringlet to BOH estate than to Tanah Rata. The Tanah Rata shop became
the headquarters of his own business known as Shuparshad & Sons. He
continued to expand further and bought 50 acres of land from the British govt for
tea cultivation in Kuala Terla. This was the family’s first foray into tea.
Today, tea remains the spiritual core business of the Bharat Group of
Companies. After the demise of Shuparshad in 1940 his eldest son Datuk Sri Brij
Kishore was a dynamic businessmen and entrepreneur who went on to expand the
tea business further by acquiring and developing more tea estates. After
establishing himself as a successful wholesaler of tea to the world’s leading
tea retailers he started his own tea brand in 1960 with the name ‘CHOPRUSA’.
This retail business was expanded by introducing ‘Cameron Valley’ in 1996. Today,
Cameron Valley has a complete range of teas ranging from premium teas, flavoured
teas, and a herbal tea range. Today, Datuk Kesav and Datuk Vinod are at the
helm of this family business. The 4th generation, Shuparshad’s great-grandchildren,
are actively involved in the operation and are continuing the family legacy.
While maintaining the core focus on tea, they are now diversifying into tourism
and agro-tourism. This family is a pioneering family of CH and their company’s
development graph is intertwined with the growth of CH. We strongly believe in
the preservation of the environment and the sanctity of this place.
