Border Monument at Tweed Heads
Being the border city we can find a border monument stands at Tweed Heads.
QLD-NSW border monumet at Tweed Heads
Written clearly on the monument are the initial of the two surveyors name involved during the border survey R (Rowland) and WER. R stands for Isaiah Rowland (NSW Surveyor) while FER is Francis Edward Roberts (QLD Surveyor). The survey was started in 1863.
While Roberts and Rowland started the project together on good terms, a dispute resulted in them parting ways and each drawing up their own version of the border. Robert's survey was a bit more precise and was accepted by both QLD and NSW governments.
Unfortunately Robert didn't live a long life, passing away not long after he completed the border in 1866.
